<p>A Saudi court&#39;s sentence of 200 lashes and six-months&#39; imprisonment
for a 19-year-old victim of gang rape, known only as the &quot;Qatif girl,&quot;
recently made headlines across the United States. Her story would never
have come to outside attention without the efforts of her lawyer, Abdul
Rahman al-Lahim. A specialist in commercial law, the 36-year-old Saudi
also takes human rights cases on a pro-bono basis.<a href="http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&amp;view=bsp&amp;ver=ymdfwq781tpu#119df7c3393f6d98__ftn1" name="119df7c3393f6d98__ftnref1">[1]</a></p>
<p>In his youth, Lahim was attracted to radical Islam and used his
bachelor&#39;s degree in Islamic law to teach Arabic and work for As-Sahwa
al-Islamiyya (the Islamic awakening),<a href="http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&amp;view=bsp&amp;ver=ymdfwq781tpu#119df7c3393f6d98__ftn2" name="119df7c3393f6d98__ftnref2">[2]</a> a radical Islamist group critical of modernizing reforms in the kingdom.<a href="http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&amp;view=bsp&amp;ver=ymdfwq781tpu#119df7c3393f6d98__ftn3" name="119df7c3393f6d98__ftnref3">[3]</a> It was not until he entered law school, Lahim says, that he shed their conservative ideology. In an interview with <em>The Washington Post</em>, he said that today he believes, &quot;first and foremost, in human rights and rule of law.&quot;<a href="http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&amp;view=bsp&amp;ver=ymdfwq781tpu#119df7c3393f6d98__ftn4" name="119df7c3393f6d98__ftnref4">[4]</a></p>
<p>It is Lahim&#39;s past that makes his arguments for reforming Saudi law
effective. He not only crafts effective legal arguments, but he also
understands the conservative forces that hold the gavel.</p>
<p>As a result, Lahim is a marked man by Saudi Arabia&#39;s many
reactionary forces. He has been arrested multiple times and is banned
from traveling outside the kingdom. In 2004, he defended a high school
chemistry teacher from a sentence of 40-months&#39; imprisonment and 750
public lashes for speaking out against terrorism following a major
terrorist attack on Saudi soil in May 2003. Only King Fahd&#39;s pardon, at
the behest of his brother Crown Prince (now king) Abdullah, saved Lahim
himself from imprisonment.<a href="http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&amp;view=bsp&amp;ver=ymdfwq781tpu#119df7c3393f6d98__ftn5" name="119df7c3393f6d98__ftnref5">[5]</a></p>
<p>On December 16, 2007, Saudi justice minister Abdullah bin Muhammad
ash-Sheikh reported that the rape victim had received a royal pardon,
but the Saudi courts may yet disbar Lahim for mounting such a vigorous
defense. He currently awaits a hearing on his license to practice law,
which has been suspended indefinitely.<a href="http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&amp;view=bsp&amp;ver=ymdfwq781tpu#119df7c3393f6d98__ftn6" name="119df7c3393f6d98__ftnref6">[6]</a>
However, these threats do not deter Lahim&#39;s efforts to change the Saudi
judicial system. &quot;I would be disgraced if I sit back and don&#39;t support
these people who need me,&quot; he says.<a href="http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&amp;view=bsp&amp;ver=ymdfwq781tpu#119df7c3393f6d98__ftn7" name="119df7c3393f6d98__ftnref7">[7]</a></p>
<p>Despite the uncertainty of his future, Lahim remains upbeat about
judicial reform in Saudi Arabia and suggests that the Qatif case
&quot;signals the death throes of the judiciary&#39;s old guard.&quot;<a href="http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&amp;view=bsp&amp;ver=ymdfwq781tpu#119df7c3393f6d98__ftn8" name="119df7c3393f6d98__ftnref8">[8]</a>
Saudi Arabia&#39;s road to a liberal judicial system is a long one, but
with Abdul Rahman al-Lahim involved, Riyadh and Washington should pack
for a lengthy trip.</p>

<p>Dear JudgeBob,</p>

<p>As predictable as the sun coming up in the East, a spokesman for an
Islamic organization has condemned Congresswoman Sue Myrick’s “Ten
Point Plan” to wake up America to the threat of Islamic terrorism.</p>

<p>Just as predictably, the “condemnation” makes no attempt to refute
the plan or make a factual case against it. The reason, as so aptly
pointed out below, is that the Muslim spokesman cannot refute the plan.
Thus, the “condemnation” consists of the same tired, worn-out, name
calling and ad hominem attacks that are standard fare for Islamic
apologists. It’s an age-old propaganda technique – if you can’t refute
the message, try to destroy the messenger.</p>

<p>We should be encouraged by this lame attempt to smear an honorable Congresswoman. It should motivate us to work <em>even harder</em>
to spread the truth about Islamofascism far and wide! The more people
see the truth, the more they will recognize that those who try to
defend militant Islam have nothing to offer except, well,
fear-mongering and name-calling.</p></strong></span>

<hr style="color: #ff0000" />

<p><span style="font-size: large"><strong>Shock horror: Muslim leader condemns Myrick anti-jihad plan!</strong></span></p>

<p><a href="http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/020830.php" target="_blank">http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/020830.php</a></p>

<p>&quot;&#39;Myrick&#39;s latest attempt at fighting terrorism is nothing more than
a fear campaign,&#39; said Jibril Hough, a spokesman for the Islamic Center
of Charlotte. &#39;It is nothing more than a new McCarthyism, or Myrickism.
As Muslims, we have become expendable as politicians like Myrick seek
political gain.&#39;</p>

<p>&quot;Myrick said she wants the group to give a point-by-point rebuttal of her plan.&quot;</p>

<p>Yes, that would be most interesting. What could Jibril Hough say? Let&#39;s go through the <a href="http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/020779.php" target="_blank">Myrick Plan</a> and see:</p>

<p>1. Investigate all military chaplains endorsed by Abdurahman Alamoudi, who was imprisoned for funding a terrorist organization.</p>

<p>Alamoudi is doing <a href="http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2004/October/04_crm_698.htm" target="_blank">23 years for funding jihad terrorism.</a> Is it possible that some of the military chaplains he endorsed shared his jihadist views? Can Jibril Hough explain why not?</p>

<p>2. Investigate all prison chaplains endorsed by Alamoudi.</p>

<p>Same question as for #1.</p>

<p>3. Investigate the selection process of Arabic translators working for the Pentagon and the FBI.</p>

<p>An <a href="http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=36492" target="_blank">FBI whistleblower has reported</a> that Arabic translators there cheered the 9/11 attacks. Can Jibril Hough explain why this should not be a cause for concern?</p>

<p>4. Examine the non-profit status of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.</p>

<p>The Council on American-Islamic Relations has <a href="http://www.danielpipes.org/article/3437" target="_blank">had several of its officials convicted on jihad terror-related charges</a>, and was <a href="http://www2.nysun.com/article/55778" target="_blank">named an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas funding case</a>. Can Jibril Hough explain why its tax-exempt status should not at least be examined?</p>

<p>5. Make it an act of sedition or solicitation of treason to preach or publish materials that call for the deaths of Americans.</p>

<p>Objections, Mr. Hough?</p>

<p>6. Audit sovereign wealth funds in the United States.</p>

<p>If these funds may be used to conduct warfare against the U.S., what exactly is Mr. Hough&#39;s objection?</p>

<p>7. Cancel scholarship student visa program with Saudi Arabia until
they reform their text books, which she claims preach hatred and
violence against non-Muslims.</p>

<p>It is demonstrably true that they do. Does Mr. Hough endorse this?</p>

<p>8. Restrict religious visas for imams who come from countries that don&#39;t allow reciprocal visits by non-Muslim clergy.</p>

<p>This is simply in the interests of mutual tolerance and understanding, is it not, Mr. Hough?</p>

<p>9. Cancel contracts to train Saudi police and security in U.S. counterterrorism tactics.</p>

<p>Given <a href="http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/018423.php" target="_blank">ongoing Saudi financing of the global jihad</a>, what exactly is Mr. Hough&#39;s objection?</p>

<p>10. Block the sale of sensitive military munitions to Saudi Arabia.</p>

<p>Same question as #9.</p>

<p>But I doubt that Hough will provide a point-by-point refutation, for the same reason that <a href="http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/020823.php" target="_blank">John Esposito will not debate me</a>. What can they say?</p>

<p>&quot;Muslim condemns Myrick plan: Senator says she welcomes dialogue on anti-terrorism proposal,&quot; by Jim Morrill for the <a href="http://www.charlotte.com/local/story/601203.html" target="_blank">Charlotte Observer</a> (thanks to Twostellas):</p>

<blockquote>
<p>A spokesman for a Charlotte-area Islamic group Monday accused U.S.
Rep. Sue Myrick of leading a &quot;fear campaign&quot; with her proposal to curb
the expansion of radical Islam.</p>

<p>Myrick, a Charlotte Republican, proposed a 10-point &quot;Wake Up
America&quot; plan this month that, among other things, calls for
investigations into the selection of the Pentagon&#39;s Arabic translators
and some Muslim military and prison chaplains.</p>

<p>&quot;Myrick&#39;s latest attempt at fighting terrorism is nothing more than
a fear campaign,&quot; said Jibril Hough, a spokesman for the Islamic Center
of Charlotte. &quot;It is nothing more than a new McCarthyism, or Myrickism.
As Muslims, we have become expendable as politicians like Myrick seek
political gain.&quot;</p>

<p>Myrick said she wants the group to give a point-by-point rebuttal of her plan.</p>

<p>&quot;I&#39;d be glad to have a dialogue with them,&quot; she said. &quot;The whole point is that we&#39;re trying to get people to work together.&quot;</p>

<p>Myrick&#39;s proposal has also drawn criticism from the Washington-based
Council on American-Islamic Relations. One of her proposals was to
investigate the group&#39;s nonprofit status....</p>

            <p>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; What makes America great is this; When Christianity goes astray,
predominantly Christians in a democracy correct that church, that
faith.&#160; This is not the case in Islam in a theocracy.&#160; It is up to
predominantly Christians from democracies that correct Islamic, or
Nazi, or Communist, or Christian or whatever banner evil pops its head
up from under.&#160; This is why America is great, this is why we honor
Israel, Australia, and the U.K. and whoever chips into the fight
against evil.&#160; These are countries who self correct their own evils and
face the threats evil perpetrates on others.&#160; Imperialism charges
against these free countries is not only false, it is astoundingly
ignorant of history, even recent history to equate honorable people,
nations, and religions with those who wreak havoc on the rest of the
world.&#160; It is profoundly arrogant and hypocritical for half of the free
world to condemn these nations for our actions with military force to
bring peace to their own regions and to answer attacks on their nations
with overwhelming force.&#160; The moral compass of anyone who equates our
actions with those of people who attack innocent citizens using 14 year
old children to carry bomb belts into our midst and blow themselves up
in the hope of killing as many innocents as possible, has to be 180*
out or missing altogether.&#160; To compare Abu Graib or Guantanamo to
people who saw off heads, who use piano wire to slice off the faces of
children, to excuse any action on the basis of the desperation of the
enemy is to lack reason and common sense. </p><p>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Dispatches is an English version of a video news magazine similar to 20/20.&#160; These videos are one complete program revealing what is taught in many Muslim Mosques.&#160; It is well worth watching all six of these videos.&#160; As you watch them, keep in mind that the same funding and source of promotional material is being sent around the world, including to the mosques in the United States.&#160; The same brand of Islam is paid for and promoted by the same people who are supporting these mosques in England.&#160; No under cover operation has come to light on the U.S. mosques but they are sourced the same as those in England and around the world.&#160; I cannot re-iterate this enough.&#160; This is what is being taught inside mosques right here in the United States today.</p>

<div class="optional_text"><p>The biggest game of the year ships April 29. Are you ready?</p>
<p>&#160;</p></div>
<p class="cb">By John, April 3rd, 2008</p>
<p>Few games are likely to be as popular, or as scrutinized as <a href="http://www.whattheyplay.com/products/grand-theft-auto-iv-for-xbox-360/">Grand Theft Auto IV</a>,
when it is released on April 29. Certain to be one of the biggest pop
culture events of the year, it’s more than likely that tweens and teens
(especially boys) are going to want to get their hands on it, and will
no doubt try every persuasive argument in their repertoire to convince
you why. To help prep you for the negotiations ahead, we’ve put
together what we’ve learned about the game so you can make an informed
decision for your family.</p>

like previous games in the series, the Grand Theft Auto IV story is
told with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. Set in the New York
City-like Liberty City, the plot centers on Niko Bellic, an Eastern
European immigrant pursuing the “American Dream.” Through Niko’s eyes,
the game presents a satirical view of modern day America and pokes fun
at everything from social to economic issues, liberals to
conservatives, criminals to law enforcement.<br />

with previous games in the series, violence is central to the
experience, and the technology afforded by the Xbox 360 and PlayStation

document from the UK ratings body, the BBFC (which has given the game
an “18” rating) appeared online recently which stated, “the character
can pick up prostitutes and pay for three levels of service. What
follows is an un-detailed portrayal of masturbation, fellatio, and
intercourse. The character can also visit lap-dancing clubs and request
a private dance. While the game contains sexualized dancing and the
portrayal of sex, there is no sexualized nudity.” So, yes there’s sex,

language used throughout the game is pretty blue, and this also extends
to the in-game radio stations, and thinly veiled messaging on

this one under “potential extra charges to my credit card,” Rockstar
Games and Amazon.com have teamed up to make purchasing the GTA IV
soundtrack a fully interactive experience. As players cruise around
Liberty City listening to the in-game radio stations, they can “tag”
any of the 150 songs by opening the in-game cell phone and dialing a
specific number. Players will then receive a text message with the song
and artist name, and if they’re registered at the Rockstar Social Club
they’ll find an email in their inbox with a direct link to the Amazon
MP3 store.<br />

<span style="font-size: small; font-family: century schoolbook">Are the media influencing Americans to
duck responsibility for their own decisions and behavior? By undermining core
moral values, are the media leading Americans away from a mature acceptance of
personal responsibility for their own lives and for their obligations to others?

</p><p>
According to the National Cultural Values Survey, a major study of American
cultural and moral values, most Americans think so. The study, commissioned by
the Culture and Media Institute, finds that large majorities of every
significant demographic category of American adults believe the media are
harming the nation’s moral values.
</p><p>
The first section of this CMI Special Report, <em>The Media Assault on American
Values</em>, discusses the survey’s revelations about how the American public
perceives the news and entertainment media. The survey addresses American
perceptions of the influence of the media as a whole, and specifically of the
news and entertainment industries.
</p><p>
The second section of the report analyzes the relationship between exposure to
media and Americans’ acceptance of responsibility for their own lives and
treatment of others. The survey compares American adults according to how many
hours of television they watch, on average, every evening. This report defines
Americans who watch an hour or less of television each evening as “light
television viewers.” Americans who watch four or more hours of television each
evening are “heavy television viewers.”
</p>
<p><br />
<strong>Major findings
</p><p>
1. 74 percent of Americans believe the nation’s moral values have declined over
the past twenty years, and large majorities hold the media responsible for
contributing to that decline. </strong>
</p>
<p><strong>Americans believe the media influence values.</strong>64 percent of Americans
agree the media are an important factor in shaping moral values in this country.
Only 7 percent say the media are not important in shaping moral values.<br />
<strong>Americans believe the media are harming moral values. </strong>68 percent of
Americans say the media have a negative impact on moral values in this country.
Only 9 percent say the media impact is positive.
</p>
<p><strong>Americans overwhelmingly blame Hollywood for harming moral values. </strong>73
percent of Americans say the entertainment industry is having a negative impact
on moral values in this country. Only 7 percent say the entertainment industry
is having a positive impact.
</p>
<p><strong>Most Americans blame the news media as well.</strong> 54 percent of Americans
believe the news media have a negative impact on moral values in this country.
Only 11 percent say the news media have a positive impact.
</p>
<p><strong>2. The media are undermining America’s sense of personal responsibility. The
more a person watches television, the less likely he will be to accept
responsibility for his own life and for his obligations to the people around
him.</strong>
</p>
<p><strong>Acceptance of responsibility to provide for his own needs.</strong> 64 percent of
heavy TV viewers believe the government should be responsible for providing
retirement benefits to Americans, compared to only 43 percent of light TV
viewers. 63 percent of heavy TV viewers prefer government health care to private
health care, compared to only 43 percent of light TV viewers.
</p>
<p><strong>Acceptance of responsibility to support the needs of others by making
charitable contributions or volunteering time.</strong> 56 percent of heavy TV
viewers did not volunteer time to worthy causes last year, compared to 27
percent of light TV viewers. 24 percent of heavy TV viewers made no charitable
contributions in the past year, compared to 11 percent of light TV viewers.
</p>
<p><strong>Acceptance of responsibility to respect the rights of others by practicing
classical virtues like honesty, reliability and fairness.</strong> 31 percent of
heavy TV viewers say they would cheat a restaurant by paying a bill that omitted
some items. Only 19 percent of light TV viewers said they would cheat the
restaurant.
</p>
<p><strong>Acceptance of responsibility to uphold high moral standards on social and
sexual issues like divorce, sex outside of marriage, abortion and homosexuality.</strong>
52 percent of light TV viewers would limit the availability of divorce, compared
to only 44 percent of heavy TV viewers. 51 percent of light TV viewers describe
themselves as pro-life, compared to 37 percent of heavy TV viewers.
</p>
<p><strong>3. The media are undermining commitment to religion. The more a person
watches television, the less likely he is to value religious principles and
obedience to God.</strong> 47 percent of light TV viewers attend church or religious
services at least once per week, compared to 28 percent of heavy TV viewers.
</p>
<p><strong>4. The media have a seductive effect. The more a person watches TV, the less
likely he is to believe the media are influencing the nation’s moral values. </strong>
78 percent of light TV viewers believe the media are harming American moral
values, but only 58 percent of heavy TV viewers agree.</span></p>

<p>
<span style="font-size: small; font-family: century schoolbook">
<strong>Conclusion</strong>
</p><p>
The widespread American belief that the news and entertainment media are
damaging the nation’s moral values is clearly justified by the results of the
National Cultural Values Survey.
</p><p>
The most telling finding is that increased exposure to television correlates
with a decline in acceptance of personal responsibility. According to the
survey, the more hours people spend in front of the television, the less likely
they are to accept personal responsibility for their own lives and for their
obligations to the people around them. They are less likely to conduct
themselves honestly, and they are more likely to hold permissive attitudes about
moral issues like divorce, extramarital sex, homosexuality and abortion. They
are less likely to honor Godly values and religion in public life.
</p><p>
The great majority of Americans perceive a decline in the nation’s moral values.
This is another way of saying Americans perceive erosion in the responsibility
and integrity of their fellow citizens, sexual mores and the nation’s submission
before God: the very areas apparently being undermined by the media. </span></p><p><br /> </p>

<p>Profiling won&#39;t be an issue anymore, but accidental shootings of
pregnant women within our airports and sports arenas may be.&#160; Lest we
forget, they have already arranged it so that its now possible to
mistakenly kill the mentally challenged and children by using them to
carry out terrorist bombings.</p> <p>We westerners have to understand
that their&#39;s is a culture that values religious pride and identity
above life, even the lives of their own children as evidenced not only
by these unwitting suicide bombers, but also by their honor killings of
daughters who refuse to wear the hijab or who&#39;ve been raped or for just
dating.&#160; </p> <p>America does not target innocent civilians but the
enemy uses the innocent as shields and as couriers to carry their bomb
belts into our midst.&#160; The enemy is evil, real, and cunning.&#160; Their is
no comparison between honorable men and women of our culture and those
who consider it an honor to target our innocent and hide behind their
innocent civilians.&#160; Cowardly tactics from cowardly ideologues.&#160; </p>  <p>About
those who compare ours to theirs; you consider it bravery to attack
honorable institutions and those who man them on the confidence that
you will not be answered violence for violence.&#160; Beware; this is an
open threat.&#160; If I catch any of you attacking one of these honorable
people who cannot return blow for blow under threat of biased
prosecutor and judges and this politically correct climate, I will step
up to do so in their stead.&#160; Your right to freedom of speech does not
include destruction of property public or private, and it certainly
does not include any personal attacks to people in uniform.</p><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></p>
