What Makes Me Giddy
Scroll down to get right to today's topic.
What do I focus on today? There is so much going on this week, I don't know how to proceed. Unwed pregnant mother taking office with pride in her unwed status. State fascism on e-Harmony's business. Islamic piracy on the high seas missing the Islamic tag in all the news report headlines, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. Christian justification of sexual impurity. A constitutional crisis being ignored by all forms of media save blogs like mine. Enough nuclear fuel for Iran's first nuclear bomb. Robert Spencer discussed his new book today, Stealth Jihad. Sarkozy Pushes for Abandonment of Dollar as World Reserve Currency. Michael Jackson former king of pop has converted to Islam.
'93 World Trade Center bomber converts to Christianity. YouTube has been a jihad battleground for 6 years or so but that battle also seems to have been won by the Western world... well, actually the Israelis won it. Lots more I could mention, but I settled on two.I've had this sitting on my browser for more than a day intending to get it online but so much else has needed attending. This is 23 years old and is still applicable today because the Liberal doctrinistas have not updated their playbook in that length of time.

Now, that's done: Its times like this that I back up and start looking at happy news. I really like the topic of happiness. So much has been written on the topic and a myriad of studies have been done in pursuit of understanding how to achieve it. Rarely do any of these works have any real valuable input. As a liberal, the more ignorant I was the happier I was and the more I strove for wisdom the more frustrated I was for the effort. It wasn't until my world view suffered a seachange when I became a Christian and began studying the Bible that I knew any real wisdom/insight or real control of my happiness level.
Eyetop TV
Today in the NY Times a story was released that I actually agree with. A side note: Whenever a paper or other news venue does a good job I want to be sure to laud that agency. I want to encourage good work even among the worst businesses. It is such a rare event they do a good job that I am able to laud the NY Times I do not want to miss this opportunity. Well done Roni Caryn Rabin of the NY Times. I do not have the letters next to my name which give me credibility among the modern Liberal elites. Therefor I rely on the authority of studies and principled PhD's to gain cred with them. Not that PhD's knowledge ensure wisdom, they don't. Nor do studies actually carry any authority of wisdom with me, they don't. In fact, all studies do is either verify our common sense or they dis-inform. There may be the rare exception which demonstrates counter-intuitive information, but overall, they are a huge waste of taxpayer money. For example, just look at the giant federal funding motivated global warming scam and the multitude of dis-information that has produced. However, the modern Liberal elite place a great deal of value with them, so I'll make use of them where I can. uh... Pardon my rabbit trail.
TV while you pee.
So now we have a study to prove what I've been saying about the detrimental effect of watching TV and the beneficial effect of going to church and sacrificing some of your time and wealth to benefit others. YEEHAW! I'm giddy with excitement. One more tool in my psychological black bag to whip out in conversation with the victims of the mental illness of political Liberalism.
TV while you flee.

What Happy People Don’t Do
Happy people spend a lot of time socializing, going to church and reading newspapers — but they don’t spend a lot of time watching television, a new study finds.
That’s what unhappy people do.
Although people who describe themselves as happy enjoy watching television, it turns out to be the single activity they engage in less often than unhappy people, said John Robinson, a professor of sociology at the University of Maryland and the author of the study, which appeared in the journal Social Indicators Research.

The English Primer you provided us Bob must be in use at every newspaper outlet in the United States--maybe they should enforce it using the Fairness in Journalism Law!
Loved the English Primer, but I have a few updates from 1985 to 2008:
"An Emotional Issue: A political controversy involving the convictions of conservatives."
Today is: "Hate Speech: A political controversy involving the convictions of conservatives."
and
"Moderate Arabs: Mythical beings to whom State Dept. officials make sacrificial offerings."
Today is: "Moderate Muslims: Mythical beings to whom State Dept. officials make sacrificial offerings."
Loved it! Made me happy! (But maybe that's because I've quit watching so much TV!)
I say we gather up some books from Focus on the Family (for example) and go after the porn sites for equal representation.
(Just a whimsical thought...)
With respect to happiness, I've been taught that it's pretty much a choice (is the glass half-empty or half-full?) and it's up to us to sow it into our lives.
The world would have us think that it ONLY comes from an external source.
But they're wrong, of course; more important than happiness is JOY.
Nehemiah 8:10 "...the joy of the Lord is your strength."
Happiness is so important for people to understand. Your are perfectly correct with regard to where it comes from and whoever taught you had their heads on straight.
Joy is indeed our strength. But that joy is only found in the Lord. That joy is referred to as joy unspeakable. The secular person has never experienced it and has no point of reference. So I stick to happiness when encouraging them to live better lives. Its a difficult thing to get across to the unbeliever the many and vast benefits of knowing Him and that His will is for our blessing. He created us from nothing and He loves us beyond measure. The kind of security and astounding emotion we experience when once we've met Him and realize that He is not only real, but is in personal intimate love with us as a Father to His child and as Jesus the Son in love with His bride and as the Councilor in care of His patient.
I can see Niel sitting in that conference room considering his options. He should have fought it until the courts either forced him to provide his services to them or pay the fines. However, he has been providing the best service available to Christians. That service goes away or he pays a heavy fine and has to do whatever the judge commands to stay in this ministry. I don't defend his chosen option, I'm defending his need to make the choice before the judge made it for him.
Yes, Christians need to do more than "turn the other cheek" an sit around without taking bold action when their faith is challenged. Look at the life of Paul, in jail, but still fighting the good fight. Look at Jesus when he overturned the merchant tables outside the synagog. Even Jesus took action that challenged His belief system.
Catholic adoption services is a good example: if our country persecutes Christians to the point where they must compromise on their faith and principles, it is better to leave than to cave to provide support to a sinful, secular lifestyle. This all gets down to the "freedom of religion" versus "freedom from religion" message of the liberals in America.
Well, ok...but I'd rather thank you. This is so beautifully and completely expressed.
The modern version of "the joy of the Lord" is "holy laughter". Some think it's phenomenal and some have negative opinions.
Either way, laughter is often contagious and in Proverbs it says it's good like a medicine...when it comes up from the wellspring of our spirit (a belly laugh), it's awesome. (("I haven't laughed like that in years!!!"))
Yet, laughter is not joy.
I was in church today; and the pastor, who usually leads worship, stepped back and let a young man lead.
This young man is someone I knew as a boy, and now am getting reacquainted with the family. He is my daughters' age, they went to elementary school together, and his mom babysat my girls after school and on non-school days. I worked at the same place as their dad, so there was a full circle connection.
Back to this morning's worship...
My favorite saying is "Worship: it's not a spectator sport."
I was thrilled as I saw Zack leading and, even though seated near the back, it was only natural to be an encouragement.
That is joy....joy in the Lord...and as you put it, joy unspeakable.
The first song included an altar call for prayer. I didn't go up, but was in tears.
There was more joy to behold, knowing how blessed his mom is in seeing her son serving the Lord.
So, not only was there my own joy, but I could share her's as well.
And to top it off, his dad attended today; so there was yet more joy in knowing that his dad (whom I've known to be a bit hardened) was being ministered to.
This is all joy...with happiness as a by-product.
Some people in leadership have this kockameemie impression that Jesus submitted Himself to Pilate, etc. during the trial.
NO. His submission was to God alone.
(It's that vertical--horizontal thing. When things are in line with God, they become in line with others.)
Also, "turn the other cheek" has the stronghold of "weakness" attached...and it does not have to.
There is both truth and balance in this that needs to be understood by the Church at large.
And if she doesn't learn that truth and balance quickly, she's going to become something we don't want.
It would behoove us as Bible-believing bloggers to pray and ask how we could be of service in this area.

Facing America's Change
My giddiness can be compared to the weekend mechanic's feelings about acquiring a new tool or a hunter's feelings about getting a new gun. I blog and debate because I find tremendous joy in it and that study went into my black bag like the mechanic's tool went into his garage tool box or the hunter's rifle went into his gun cabinet. My auto project or game of choice as it were, is the modern Liberal ideologies which damage our society. You must have taken my giddiness to mean I enjoy making people feel bad. No, I enjoy making people aware of the realities and consequences of our choices.
