United Against US

Comments

This is just shocking and it shouldn't be. We already know this in bits and pieces here and there, yet, we continue on in our everyday lives and pretend to not know this crap and never speak against it.

Also WHERE IS GEORGE W. BUSH'S condemnation on these crimes against humanity? Has he spoke out forcefully and I've just not heard it.

Consider it done....I'm going to sign the petition and I'm also writing my senators

Once again the United Nations is nothing, but a sick joke.

They disagree with us, so we must not give them and agreed upon sum! Indeed, that shall show the blighters for thinking differently from us, wot?

Whatever happened to Christian charity? Giving to the needy, loving thy enemy and all that? It's not like Egypt's $2 billion goes directly to funding anti-American votes in the UN.
"In fact, it is the Europeans irrational resistance to genetically modified (GM) crops - aided and abetted by extremists on the left -- that is responsible for much of the hunger in Africa and the rest of the developing world."

Europe's resistance to GMOs is based on a few genuine, entirely rational concerns. One, engineering a superstrain of corn that grows anywhere is fine and dandy, humans have been selectively breeding plants for harsh climates since the dawn of time. The problem is that modern agrobusiness and patents on GMOs mean that companies gain monopolies on their supercorn, and export it around the world without competition, creating monoculture of crops that are extremely vulnerable to disease. This was a problem with the bananas of the world; they'd mostly been produced by cloning to keep optimal growth genes in the plantations, and a few years ago there was a fear that a banana plague was wiping out the species [I dunno if it has been dealt with yet or if bananas will really go extinct].

Two, GMOs may have health problems etc etc standard "don't standardize something before you discover that it causes leukemia and AIDS simultaneously" precaution.

Blame for food shortages aren't placed on Europe with good reason. You're using pretty bad justification to accuse Europe of causing the food crisis. They still produce an enormous amount of food, just because they don't apply mass production techniques to extract even more from the earth doesn't mean that they're causing a food crisis. There's an old observation by Malthus, that population grows geometrically, and resources grow arithmetically. Europe's food supply grows slower than the global population, and it [hopefully] meets European standards. That means they don't mass-produce mushrooms in filth[ier] conditions and wind up recalling their global export when its all contaminated with mercury and pesticides [thanks, China].

Europe also grows its biofuel supplies in specifically designated fields that are useless for farming crops. It's not like Indonesia carving up rainforest or American farmers turning corn into oil for subsidies, it's Italian farmers turning their brambles into biofuel weeds. "Europe's resistance to GM" is not causing any kind of problem. America's conversion of food into fuel is, as a global leader in food exports. When has inaction ever caused anything?
Sorry, Newt Gingrinch is using bad reason.
