The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade in 2000. The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote. To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot. The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia's mother. The day arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make o ur class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise. She said, 'If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream.'

Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream, and 60% percent of America reacts like nine year olds. They want ice cream. The other 40% percent know they're going to have to feed the cow.

I've known for a long time that the world would buy lies if the lies are sweet and desirable.  I didn't want to believe America was ready to buy in so cheaply.  The promise was essentially one paycheck as I debated with one Obamite.  She was quite enamored of him and was justifying her emoting with his economic plan.  I explained to her that she was selling her cow (job) for a bowl of ice cream.  (paycheck)  She didn't care.  She wanted that bowl of ice cream.

My president's name will be Barack Obama on January 27, 2009.  I will not sink to the level of the Bush haters and refuse to give him the respect his office calls for.  He is President Elect, Barack Obama.  I have no respect for the man and I've heard (I could not bear to watch) when he walked out to the podium to deliver his acceptance speech, the realization of his responsibility settled on him like a heavy cloak.  He visibly felt the pressure he was assuming.  Yes Mr. President.  You are charged with keeping us safe from threats foreign and domestic.  Yes, Mr. President.  You are expected to fulfill your many promises and your adoring fans think you will heal the earth, and deliver them from their economic woes.  You promised!!

I'm going to go console myself with a bowl of expensive Willie Nelson's favorite peach cobbler ice cream which I bought for myself...  I wonder if anybody will remember to prosecute the ACORN fraud?  mmmm, peachy!  I wonder if anybody will remember to chastise the press corps which have sold out their credibility for advocacy?  creamy, unnnh.  I wonder if the new Republican will have any semblance of conservatism in 2012?  This is really good!  I wonder if we'll be free enough to elect the next president?  I wonder if the leftist Congress will successfully silence the conservative voice via the Fairness Doctrine and hate speech legislation?   Do you think he'll try to bring back that World Poverty Act stupidity?  They actually have pie crust in this stuff.
